“Joy is the simplest
form of gratitude.” – Karl Barth
Hi all,
I can't believe it's already mid-November! You wouldn't
think time would fly so quickly when one's basically just
staying home...
Anyway, this newsletter is really just a series of announcements
and such so I'm gonna get on with that. Nothing huge!
I hope everyone's safe and well!
God bless,
Jenni
Announcement
#1: So Yahoo has decided to pull the plug on YahooGroups on
December 15th. While this is sad, the functionality and
reliability of YG has been decreasing for quite a while.
So I made the decision to switch the JABB YahooGroup over to
Google Groups. Discussion is pretty limited... though
always welcome! Mostly the posts are me sending a daily
quote from TBAA and the occasional Dyeland story quote. So
if you're not part of the YG and that interests you, please let
me know and I'll add you to our new Google Group. You
don't need a Google account unless you want to be able to check
messages online. If you only want to receive the daily
quotes and whatever else via your chosen email address then that
can be any email address with no connection to Google required.
Announcement #2: Really this is just a reminder. In light
of the increasing number of lockdowns, I wanted to remind people
of ways to keep in touch including the JABB Discord
channel. The following invitation link will not
expire. However, I will remove it from this page after a
bit so we don't get spammers. Thus, if you think this may
be of interest to you, please save the link. Of course,
you can also always email me to request an invitation. I
try to be logged into Discord whenever I'm at my computer so, if
you do join, please say hi and I'll respond as quickly as
possible! The invitation link: removed- please email Jenni
for the link if you're a JABB member.
Announcement #3: Despite how it may look, I've actually been
writing quite a bit. Where I've fallen short is
proofreading. I have a couple short stories and one
full-length story that aren't yet available because I haven't
found the time to proof them. So if you enjoy the Dyeland
stories and would like to help with proofing a story about Joccy
and Takoda... and some saints... please let me know. The
reason I'm a little hesitant about this one is the majority of
it was written in September when I was kinda all over the place
emotionally and so I don't entirely trust myself to have been
wholly coherent. I also have a sneaking suspicion that I
forgot something but I've not yet been able to recall what that
was...
Possibility #1: So I've been toying with the idea of around the
holiday season/early in the new year, having some sort of
virtual retreat for JABB members. I'm still not sure how
that would go. One possibility is to keep it very generic
and focused more on TBAA and personal spirituality.
Another possibility is to have it focused on writing. I'd
share my experiences with writing the Dyeland stories, maybe
especially as they pertain to Joshua. Maybe we'd
brainstorm ideas. Maybe folks could share creative writing
of their own. Maybe we do both. Maybe it's just one
retreat but in two halves so people can bow out of the half they
don't want to attend. If any of this sounds remotely
interesting to you, please get in touch. We can figure
something out. It would most likely happen via Zoom.
Possibility #2: For a while now, I've been wondering what I'm
going to do about the annual Christmas story. Two things
that are often featured are definitely out: the Friends all
gathering at Willowveil for a big celebration and the annual
Christmas show at St. G's. I think it's pretty safe to
assume the tradition of opening the story with a flashback to
the Gospel era will continue. Beyond that... It's
going to be a change. I think what I'm going to do is a
series of vignettes with Joshua popping up at the homes of
various Friends. Because there are so, so many of them,
there's no possible way I can cover them all. So if
there's a particular character or family of characters you'd
really like to see featured, please let me know. I'll do
my best to include them.
And I think that's it for now... I hope the next
newsletter will be a more typical format.
This
newsletter is dedicated to John Dye for inadvertently providing
me with cheap therapy during this pandemic.
