"A good
conscience is a continual Christmas." ~~Benjamin
Franklin
Hi all,
I just wanted to make you all aware of my plans/hopes for the
next few weeks. Ideally, the Christmas story will go out
in the Dec. 26th newsletter. But I can't guarantee
that. Unfortunately, with the colder temperatures, my
mouse problem has resurfaced. I feel like I've zeroed in
on the root problem and hope to be wrapping that all up very
soon. However, it's taking a lot of time and effort and is
pretty exhausting, mentally and physically. Additionally,
I'm having some cognitive issues... likely due to the stress and
lack of sleep but also probably related to my epilepsy.
This has mostly manifested in some memory issues. So
that's made writing slow-going because I have to continuously
re-read what I wrote to make sure I don't contradict myself or
even just entirely repeat a conversation. Normally, I
would just let that story rest and move onto the Christmas
story, returning to the other one in the new year. But
this year literally the only idea I have for a Christmas story
is a direct sequel to my in-progress story. So I'm going
to keep plugging away on that and then, once finished, I'll move
right onto the Christmas story. I am toying with the idea
of releasing all of "A Thousand Years" (not crazy about that
title but also can't think of another) in draft form so the
Christmas story makes sense but also with the understanding that
I'll refine "Years" at a later date. I don't love that
idea but it may come down to it.
If anyone has any interest in reading what I have for "A
Thousand Years" which is currently around 190 pages, please let
me know. It would actually really help to know someone was
acting as an editor of sorts to help ensure it makes sense with
nothing repeated and nothing just left forgotten about and
dangling. To be honest, I think it's just too complicated
of a story to be writing right now but when I started it I
didn't know the mice would return or that the pandemic would
still be such a concern or that other things would be going on
in my life. And I don't mean for this to be all "woe is
me!" It's a stressful time but I'm safe and healthy and so
are my loved ones. I just wanted to offer some explanation
of why things may not go as planned this year. It will
kind of break my heart to not keep up the annual Christmas story
tradition. But I keep telling myself that we're meant to
feel the Christmas spirit all year round! So if the
Christmas story doesn't show up until February... it's not the
end of the world. Anyway, I hope you're all enjoying the
holiday season and staying safe and warm!
And a memory
game... Just a heads up that I may not keep this
subscription up past the 14 day trial so if you want to play
then best to do that within the next couple of weeks since I'm
not sure where it goes after the trial. Thanks!
This newsletter is dedicated to John Dye for giving me some
escape from the chaos in general and at my house!
