Question:
So you have vampires in Dyeland. Will there ever be
other supernatural creatures? Other than angels,
naturally.
I guess I should never say never. For one, others
do contribute some stories and may figure out ways to
incorporate this, that, or the other in a way that fits
the Dyeland-verse. Vampires just worked so well
because the lore I best know is so tied in with the
Bible and Christian tradition. I mean there's Bram
Stoker's Dracula with Judeo-Christian theology
sprinkled through out. Penny Dreadful,
which I loved, had Dracula as a fallen angel. And,
of course, there was Moonlight with its motifs
of crosses and fleur-de-lis. I just can't think of
another supernatural creature that ties in so
well.
Of course, if you read the early, non-canonical Dyeland
stories, there are fairies and elves. However, I
can't imagine bringing those in now. I could
*maybe* see something involving ghosts. Ghosts,
for me, are kind of the ultimate symbol of free
will. If we can choose Heaven or Hell, then maybe
we can also choose just to stick around. There's a
certain allure to the idea of Andrew and the Friends
trying to help a trapped spirit finish their business
and move on. Maybe for Halloween some year.
And, then again, maybe not. I just dunno.
But it's definitely easier for me to imagine than, say,
werewolves or zombies.
Question: How come Arthur's name
was changed and yet references are made to other TBAA
assignments using the same name?
Uhh... I screwed up. Really, it wasn't til
I'd been writing for a while that it occurred to me that
if TBAA was based on true stories of real angels, the
names would have to be different. Otherwise,
people would have spoken up and questioned how a TV show
knew their private business. Oops!
