“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains,
but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
~~Nelson Mandela

Hi all,

Happy nearly Independence Day to those in and from the U.S.!  To everyone, I hope you feel free wherever you are!

God bless,
Jenni

With July 4th tomorrow, the ideas of independence and freedom have been on my mind.  As I prepare to commemorate my country's independence, I got to thinking about how we all declare independence in different ways.  Below, the Friends weigh in on what they've declared independence from.

Declaring Independence

Andrew- I'm continuing to try to free myself from the limitations of my own pride.  I seek out help and comfort when I need it and try not to pose as a superhero... as Laja puts it!

Emma- I've declared my independence from the pain of the past and how it made me distrust virtually everyone I met.  Now I want to start out from a place of goodwill with everyone.  :-)

Behnam- With much help from my wife, I am declaring my independence from feeling undeserving of my own happiness.

Isra- I am freeing myself from concerns about body image and eating as much chocolate as my baby wants.

Kemara and Sean - With Joshua's help we're working to free ourselves from fear of what the future might hold for us and our children.

JenniAnn- I'm letting go of the need to fix everything.  Sometimes just listening or cuddling while praying is the best you can do... and exactly what the other person needs.

Violeta- I'm going to stop worrying about what other people think of me and freely be myself... all sides of myself!  0:-)

Clay and Kylie- We're declaring ourselves soon to be free of free time because... we're gonna have a baby!

Adam- I'm going to do the opposite of everyone else by ceding my freedom preemptively.  I think that little baby in Kylie's belly is going to have Uncle Adam here wrapped around his or her pinkie.

Peter- I'd like to declare my freedom from worrying about losing Emma.  I'm so blessed to have her as my wife but sometimes have nightmares about losing her like I did Jaz.  I'm turning those fears over to Joshua.

Caleb- I think I'm getting independence from my singlehood.  One month in and things are going really well with Lacey.  8-)

Joshua- I'm declaring myself free to eat the red, white, and blue Froot Loops parfaits the little ones made for me.
