These are
pieces that I
either imagined playing in the background during scenes or that I
thought of as I pieced this together but may have been too overwhelming
actually in the scene.
1.
"Just One of Those Things" ~ Billie Holiday
I
thought Andrew might have one of her CDs playing in the background
and, due to recent circumstances in Dyeland and concerning LJA, would
opt for more upbeat selections of hers. So even though these
lyrics aren't exactly cheery, the tune is much happier than that of,
say, "God Bless the Child."
2.
"Family Affair" ~ Keb' Mo'
I
didn't really "hear" anything during the Lady Beth interview but this
song is off a great CD about families. Plus, it's Keb' Mo' aka
Jacob the Angel of Music.
3.
"Sunshine on My Shoulders" ~ John Denver
Seemed
appropriate for the rustic, outdoorsy interview with Countess
Jennifer. Coulda been played over the scenes of the horses.
Hearing it during the interview itself woulda been distracting.
4.
"Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata" and "Chopin's Nocturne #2 In E
Flat, Op. 9/2
Seemed
like pieces Vincent and Catherine could have conceivably had
playing in their chamber during the interview. Of course, a
version of "All Through the Night" which was Vincent's lullabye would
be nice, too.
5.
"Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World" by
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
This
is such a lovely version of both songs and seemed appropriate for
little Jessie's piece.
6.
"The Wind Beneath My Wings" ~ Bette Midler
I
couldn't really imagine what Adam might have playing in the
background at his house but this is my top Adam song.
7.
"Pure Imagination" ~ Gene Wilder
Probly
don't have to explain why this popped into my mind as I pieced
together Willy's section of the story. If you're trying to do
some sorta iTunes playlist off this then the film version isn't there
(at least that I saw)
but Harry Connick Jr. has a quite different version. Not a match
at all but I like his voice.
8.
"Come Home" ~ OneRepublic
Seemed
a good fit for the Rose scene. Also kinda got at the
recent upheaval going on in Dyeland. Wouldn't have been a good
idea to play this during the interview but may be during the final
scene of Rose and LJA laughing and recalling Andrew's antics.
9.
"Largo from Xerxes" by Georg Friedrich Händel
This
piece is played in the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice."
Even though P & P isn't exactly the right era, the music still
seems to fit with Nigel in my mind. Plus, "Largo" is unassuming
enough to
underscore the interview.
10.
"The Storyman" by Chris de Burgh
Not
just this one song in particular so much as the whole
CD. I know he's a favorite of Yvette so it was easy to think of
this CD playing softly in the background during Yva's and Sir Sven's
interview.
11.
"Higher Love" by Steve Winwood
Too
loud to actually be played during Henry's interview but this was on
the radio the day I pieced his bit together and it seemed somehow
appropriate.
12.
"Everything's Alright" ~ Jesus Christ Superstar 1973 film
soundtrack
I
tend to think Mick's interview and the ensuing fight woulda been best
set against silence. But I can't resist the ironic idea that LJA
was listening to "Jesus Christ Superstar" when he came in, particularly
this song which was what LJA hummed while Andrew was crying after the
religious fanatic episode. So hearing it again woulda put Mick
especially on edge and probly more determined to reveal his
suspicions. Also ironic cause during this scene things really
aren't alright at all.
13.
"Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude In C Minor"
Beautiful
but strikes me as kinda eery. Woulda set this against
Andrew getting Mick's call and then running up the Willowveil stairs
and into LJA's room where the following would take over.
14.
"All I Know" ~ Art Garfunkel
Seems
like a good post-breakup song. But really it makes me think
more of LJA's stance in regards to Andrew. But as far as
something in the background... Not sure this would work.
15.
"God Only Knows" ~ The Beach Boys
Played
during the documentary. Got the idea from "Love Actually."
16.
"Together" ~ The Kin
Played
during the "Moonlight" scene where Beth tells Mick she realizes
he's her "guardian angel." Their scene together seemed like a
good time to reprise it. For those unfamiliar with the show, Mick
is not literally an angel. He's a human turned vampire who
watches over Beth. Just didn't want anyone thinking I was
shipping angels now...
17.
"Falls" ~ Ennio Morricone
The
soaring quality to this peace from "The Mission" seems fitting for
the dove's flight. "The Mission" is a film about Jesuits in South
America. If you don't know about it then you probly didn't go to
Catholic schools where this was required viewing in no fewer than 3 of
my classes. Good thing I like it! ;-)
